On my way home from work tonight I was listening to one of my favorite albums of all time. The record is called “Upfront” (1992) and features David Sanborn (my favorite saxophonist) in such a raw way. In fact, it was the album that made me want to play the saxophone and still continues to inspire me. The 2nd track “Benny” was playing as I turned onto the main street to get home. I recently saw an ad for the new GoPro camera. I’ll link the advertisement to the bottom of the page. It was a really good commercial. One of the lines was “Don’t stop what you’re doing to capture what you’re doing.” This new camera will take a picture or video on command. So you don’t have to click any buttons or be behind the camera for it to work. So many times we want to capture a moment, but we miss the moment in the process because we’re be behind glass and plastic. Continue reading “My Baby is Not a Picture”
I have been a performer my whole life. At three years old I could smell a camera like a dog smells bacon. I was always “on”. Even in my room, by myself. I would pretend like I was the star of a TV show. As I grew older, I found myself getting parts in plays and musicals. Solos at church. Making the audition choirs. A lot of times it was probably because I was the only child that didn’t have stage fright. In fact, I had back stage fright. From the age of three to the age of twenty-three, I have been on stage. Now that I’ve taken a savasana (a sprawled out on the ground yoga pose accompanied by deep breathing), I feel like I can recount the events of today. Continue reading “Tales of a Target Bathroom”
I haven’t done as many blogs on parenting as I have on marriage and life for a few reasons. One, I feel like I have to know everything before I give “advice” on a topic. Two, I still feel like I’m just keeping above the surface of the waters at times. Parenting is messy and it’s hard to make myself stop treading the waters and just enjoy the swim. Continue reading “Mommy Do’s”
My Facebook news feed overwhelms me.
So does my Snap chat feed. If the name “Kardashian” pops up again, I might get nauseous.
I get emails constantly from baby brands I haven’t even heard of.
It seems like everyone is selling stuff.
And I literally force myself to not bring up the presidential election. Because, duh. Continue reading “I Love Having Little”
What is important when creating art?
Some people would say “an imagination”
Some people would say “the right tools or ingredients”
Some people would say “contrast”
What is art? To me… It is something that is done to bring beauty to our attention. Continue reading “The Art of Life | by Joel”
I am not a hoarder. I am not a pack rat. I AM a sentimentalist.
I have a problem. But so do you. Continue reading “Poly/Cotton Memories”
But what if???
I hear mamas all the time blame whatever annoying, bad or frustrating behavior their baby has on teething. Wouldn’t it be nice if adults could do the same? Continue reading “Adult Teething”
